SELECTED MARKET VALUTATIONS OF THE ARTIST

VITTORIO SGARBI

The most important Italian Art critic

“He is an artist full of vitality and energy, recomposing nature with forms that appear surreal but in reality they are very rational and orderly. In which there is a representation of an absolutely contemporary world, with reference to the roots of the animal world; there is the presence of animals with which the artist lived, where she felt protected by them. All this allows a “feast”, a day without social order, without having to respond to the rules that guide and limit our lives. There is a sort of primary instinct of existence and the assembly of the various elements positioned in a fun way recalls the “fantasy of Chagall”, only it is a much”.

CITATIONS AND TEXTS WRITTEN BY

ROBERTA DI CAMERINO

Daughter of the famous designer Roberta di Camerino

The art of Damisela Pastors can certainly be defined as original and surprising, made unique and inimitable by the leitmotiv of love for cows. His works are presented as an explosion of colors, a true chromatic mix through which these animals are depicted in their different facets, taking inspiration from the world of fashion as well. It is no coincidence that in many of his canvases they can see the many ideas taken from this sector: in some cows are personified and are transformed into sensual female figures wearing bright and multicolored costumes, in others women are depicted, on precious ones backgrounds in gold and silver, in poses of typical fashion figures, dressed in elegant dresses, in which the dappled skin is reproduced and in others their stylized form, of which she feels, as defined by herself, deeply “in love”. In these masterpieces Pastors surely manages to mix fashion and art, in a wonderful and extraordinary union.

ALVIERO MARTINI

World famous designer

The works of Damisela Pastors succeed in capturing the observer through the story of a fantastic and serral world where the memory of ancient Egypt is confronted with our daily life and contemporaneity. Flying cows, dancing cows, floating cows, color and move freely and wisely in the artist’s canvases. Damisela tries to tune into the pantheistic shocks. It immerses itself in nature, in animals and in the air. There is no trace of the human being in the paintings of Damisela. There are cows, a metaphor of purity and innocence. His good, pure and transparent style is inspired by the works of Franz Marc who in 1912 founded, with Kandinsky, the group Der Blaue Reiter (the Blue Knight), whose goal was “the animalization of art”.

A fundamental element of his artistic production is the lively and intact color, which recalls the Cuban land and which makes me think of the precious animal prints created by the designer Roberto Cavalli. His works are surprising, gritty and animalistic. In conclusion we recall that the cow is venerated in numerous cultures and religions, including Hinduism, Zoroastrianism and past cults such as those of ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and ancient Rome. In fact, Gandhi said: “one can measure the greatness of a nation and its moral progress by the way it treats its animals. Protecting the cow means protecting everything that lives and is imposing and weak in the world. The cow represents the entire subhuman world.

FRANCESCO ALBERONI

Known sociologist and writer

Damisela Pastors Lugo is a talented artist who paints a fantastic and surreal world animated by magical creatures who are full of life and joy. In his paintings there is an explosion of color and euphoria that recalls the bright colors of the work “Joie de vivre” by Matisse. Pastors Lugo is in love with life, beauty and nature. The painter immerses herself in the purity of the animal world to search for a profound serenity and to strengthen her soul.

“Happiness can only be cultivated with an attitude of sincerity towards ourselves and of openness to the world, to others, seeking beauty, appreciating gratefully what is given to us. We open ourselves to happiness when we appreciate life ”.

“Falling in love happens only if we find what we were looking for. It is like a puzzle in which, at a certain point, the other person reveals the missing piece, the one that suddenly shows us the whole drawing. Which, in the case of love, is the design of our life ”. The works of Damisela Pastors Lugo are a manifestation of love and energy that makes the soul of those who know how to observe vibrate.

CHIARA BRUNATO

When was the great passion for art born, especially for painting? How does it develop then also in design?

There is no precise date, a year zero. I have always felt this need. As a child I spent most of the time in the garden, with pencils in hand: I spent whole days drawing. I won my first contest as a child, with the design of a bull, the second with that of two children, the third with one from a country house. I always felt the need to describe what was around me through art: the ticket for my escape from reality was pencils. Art that I express through different means: mine is an all-round vision, which does not want to stop on a unique technique, but which instead wants to experiment, create.

How does he enter the world of art, but above all, when he discovers that something has changed and success is coming?

As I said before, I begin to express what I feel through art as a child. It was, for me, a way to take refuge in a worldof my own. It was the cows that kept me company on those
long afternoons. They protected me, they cuddled me, and it was in their maternal embrace that I found peace, that I found myself. They were my best friends, I spent most of the time with them, they seemed to understand me and welcome me like a hug.

In reality, everything changed only four years ago. I started painting my beloved cows again and success has arrived. In 2014 I take part in the Biennale of Creativity of Verona, and at that time Professor Sgarbi was looking for artists with new, fresh ideas of something new. And here I am: the cows again brought me luck.

His works are the summary of creativity and the joy of living. How important are your Cuban origins in your artist career?

Undoubtedly it counts a lot: Cuba is where I was born and where I spent my childhood, my youth. I grew up in a rural, country setting. I spent hours and hours drawing cows in the open air in the company of my friends, and I believe that this is fully seen in my works. Then, to tell the truth, I think my determination also counted a lot: I have a strong character, I know who I am and where I want to go, I realize my abilities. I’ve overcome a lot of obstacles and I don’t want to stop right now.

Professor Sgarbi’s criticisms usually come strongly to artists, writers and politicians. In his case, as shown by the video he is shooting on the web, the great art critic has words of praise and compliments; what emotions do you feel?

I am delighted with the words of Professor Sgarbi, and I must say that what he says in the video is a precise and faithful portrait of my person and my artistic path. It is as if he had read me inside, as if he knew every single part of me and my way of experiencing art. It is a strange feeling that I feel regarding the video, because I see it all myself.
